EXCERPT #1
“Still so damn gorgeous,” he said, and his mouth was on me again, his fingers reaching up and pulling my hair out of its tie. As it fell and hit my shoulders, his throat rumbled with desire. I pushed his shirt up and over his neck and gasped at the muscles I saw.
But that was short-lived because he was kissing me so hard, with such profound need, that all I could do was run my hands along his shoulders and the smooth ridges of his back. I couldn’t believe how ripped he’d gotten. He had always been toned, but now, good God, he was beautiful.
His mouth was on my neck, at my collarbone, on my breasts and he groaned into my skin murmuring my name as he went. I was overcome with emotion and longing, wetness pooling between my legs. It was like a dream that he was here, that he was kissing me again. I never wanted it to end.
He lifted me and turned, moving deeper into the room. The back of my knees hit the chaise longue, the same one he’d sat in countless times over the years. One night we had even secretly made out in it, the summer we’d hidden our attraction. I could scarcely sit there without remembering how it felt to have his tongue in my mouth. But the reality was so much better.
He stood and began unbuttoning his pants, his gaze roving all over me, his eyes glittering pinpoints of hunger. My breath faltered just watching him and I couldn’t hold back any longer. I leaned forward and began touching and kissing every inch of his skin that I could reach.
He squatted down in front of me and hooked his hands beneath my knees, hauling me toward him so that the crux of my thighs was at eye level. His palm glided over the damp center of my underwear and my legs begin to tremble. “Your smell turns me on.”
I moaned as he corkscrewed two of his fingers into the soft middle panel, locating my entrance. “Oh God.”
I was a panting, quaking mess and all he’d done was touch me over my panties.

Excerpt #2
I didn’t know what I was expecting; it was awkward enough trying to understand what was happening between us. I had no idea what was going through his head or where we stood after he had kissed me out on my balcony and then crowded me in my office before the luncheon. Besides, I had made it clear that it was bad timing for us to restart our relationship. Too bad I couldn’t get him out of my mind for even one second.

And now his mouth was hot and wet, his tongue was deep in my mouth, the pressure of his body hard and soft at the same time. I moaned and sunk further into his warmth.

“Wait,” I said, breaking away from the kiss. I needed to get some things straight between us before I lost myself in Shane completely. “We need to talk about this afternoon. How much of my conversation with Ridge did you hear?”

“Enough to know that I’m not in this alone. You had regrets, too,” he said. “You still want me. Just like I want you.”

I tucked my head into his shoulder, unable to deny anything he’d said.

“No more waiting, angel.” His fingers were at the base of my neck, his other hand gripping my ass, pulling me in tight. “I can’t stay away from you.”

My hand reaching into his hair was the only assent I needed to give. He felt too good to stop now. I had dreamt of being with him again too many times to count.

He’d be leaving town soon, and I’d just have to suffer the consequences.

He hitched up my legs and my thighs easily slid around his waist. His lips were solid and bruising; he fixed me firmly against the wall, delicious sounds emerging from his throat.

His eyes darted down to my breasts, which had hardened into stiff peaks, and his shoulders became rigid. “That’s my shirt, Dee. You’ve had it this whole time?”
I nodded, too filled with lust to feel mortified. “I wear it every night.”
“Fuck baby, you’ve been wearing my shirt?” he groaned. “Goddamn, I’m even harder now.”

Title: Ruined
Series: She Who Dares #4
Author: LP Lovell
 Release Date: April 30, 2015

Synopsis

Ruined is book four in the She Who Dares series, but can be read as a standalone.

Hugo

I like to fuck. A lot. Anywhere, anyway, as long as I’m shooting my load in or on some pretty young thing I’m good. In fact, scrap that, they don’t even have to be pretty. What can I say? I’m an equal opportunities kind of guy.

I pride myself on being able to turn even the most self-respecting woman into a dirty slut. I make no apologies for my life or my behaviour. I don’t care about anyone really, certainly not women.

Except her. I care about her, which is why I pushed her away.

Molly

I suppose I’m what you would call the good girl, the sensible one. I’m that girl, the romanticist. I believe in ‘the one’, in that all-encompassing love that leaves you unable to breathe without it.

The thing is though, love is an uncontrollable animal. The heart often declares war on the mind, and even the most rational being can become completely consumed by love.

Sometimes rational is boring. It’s the taste of the wild side that makes you remember you’re alive. The heart wants what the heart wants, even if you end up completely ruined in the process.

“Mom!” I move through the foyer and into the open great room— a large, open living/kitchen combo— where I leave my suitcase and kick off my flats before I hit the carpet. What the hell is she doing with gas? That stuff is toxic.

“Well?” Mom says, appearing at the edge of the hall on the other side of the kitchen. She has a hand towel around her neck and one of her many yoga-specific exercise outfits on. This one is a light blue and she’s barefoot. Monica Kincaid is dedicated to many things in life— her husband Christian, her daughters (the youngest, especially), and her charity projects— but yoga is the one out of all of it that I don’t understand. It puts her at peace, she says.

“Well?” I ask and drape the dress bag over the island counter top in the kitchen and move around to prop myself up on one of the bar stools. God, that gasoline smell is driving me mad.

“Are we planning a spring wedding yet or what?” Mom says with a grin. Her nose wrinkles, catching the scent of the gasoline, I’m sure. “Janet and I have been taking bets.”

“God, Mom,” I say and place my head in my hands.

“No really,” she says, “Tell me.”

“Nothing happened,” I say. Verbalizing it is even more disappointing than it probably should be. Apparently, Mom and Dad were also in on Jameson and Royal’s surprise trip. It took all of an hour after they landed for Janet Hayes to text me telling me she wishes she could have been there. It was sweet, but then she suggested she needed to leave me alone so I could spend as much time as possible with Jameson. And that we shouldn’t be disturbed. While the level of investment our mothers have in our has-yet-to-happen relationship is borderline creepy, the support is pretty awesome. It’s a rarity to find a woman as kind and loving as Janet Hayes is. Even if she doesn’t really know appropriate boundaries and likes to talk about when her sons were starting puberty… in all the gory details. I know more about Jameson’s solo activities when he was a kid more than I care to.

“You must be joking,” she says and heads to the fridge where she pulls out a single-serve cup of yogurt. “That man flew down to that god-awful place—,”

As a child, JC was fascinated by things that went bump in the night. As they say, some things never change. Now, as an adult, she divides her time between the sexy law men, mythical creatures, and kick-ass heroines that live inside her head and pursuing her bachelor's degree in English. JC is a San Francisco Bay Area native, but has also called both Texas and Louisiana home. These days she rocks her flip flops year round in Northern California and can't imagine a climate more beautiful.

JC writes adult, new adult, and young adult fiction. She dabbles in many different genres including science fiction, horror, chick lit, and murder mysteries, yet she is most enthralled by supernatural stories-- and everything has at least a splash of romance.

Tambria is a beautiful, intelligent, sexy woman in her 30's. She's responsible, has a degree in accounting and avoids drama at all costs. So how does she deal when she finds her husband having playtime with a male co-worker? A cross-country move seems like the perfect plan.

Roxtown, Colorado has the perfect solution. Her best friend from college is there with an immediate job offer to join the family firm. Things just seem to be falling into place when Tambria is given an amazing opportunity to work with one of the wealthiest CEO's in the country. Not only is he wealthy, but he can melt panties right off your ass with just his presence.

Tambria refuses to join the flocks of women that fall all over themselves to catch Evan's attention. Yes, he can be distracting. Especially when he looks at her like he's ready to throw her up against the nearest wall and do things to her body that she's never experienced before. She's determined to stay focused on her career and adjusting to being a single woman again. Can she handle the job and keep her heart and underwear in tact?

Sassy, is a quality that describes Camille Channing best.
Brilliance, is an attribute she inherited from her father.
Independence, is what she thought she’d always have by living the single life.
Camille Channing, the most outspoken woman in the state of Colorado, has everything working in her favor. She is an up and coming business mogul, working her way through the investment industry like a boss. She’s never wanted a serious relationship. Her mother had made it her life’s mission to take care of her husband and child instead of using the degree she spent so many years and money to receive. That was the driving force for Cammie’s success. She wanted to have full control of her life with no distractions and nothing tying her down.
There was only one man brave enough to take on the challenge that Cammie presented. Drew Valente knew she had reservations about being in a serious relationship. He knew her career and her father’s company, Channing Investments, has been and always would be her top priority.
Can Drew prove himself worthy of a strong, self-reliant, unwavering woman like Cammie? Will he tear down a small crack in her protective walls and slip into her heart? Cammie loves having him around, she enjoys his company, and the sex is off the charts. But with all those good things, she’s still always….Calculating the Risks.

As you may or may not know, I love to meet people. To talk and get to know them, here is my latest convo (that I am able to share ;-) with you) with the funny and talented Angel Bales. Angel, first off THANK YOU!!!!! I appreciate the time to chat with you and  to get to know you better.

RB:  Where did the urge to write come from? Inspirations; authors, books, characters?

AB: I’ve always been a book nerd and for as long as I can remember, I have wanted to try writing my own.  There are so many people that inspire me every day from friends, family, authors, bloggers, and readers. Also, music is a big inspiration. When I’m writing my headphones are on.

RB: Where did the inspiration of Tambria’s story come from?

AB: When I decided I was going to actually do it, really write a book, I wanted it to be something fun. I love the dark and twisty books, but there are times when I just need a lighthearted and easy book after going through so many emotions with those stories on top of my own stresses. That’s what I wanted to give readers with Pen Point and Tambria just sort of jumped out and said “Birch have I got a story for your ass”!

RB: Who was the inspiration for Evan Maxfield?

AB: Stuart Reardon – SOOOOOO HOT!!!

RB:  Crazy ass Cammie, is there a Cammie in your life?

AB: There most definitely is a Cammie in my life, her name is Kim. She is the one who put her foot in my ass and encouraged me to write. I really need to start recording our conversations because it’s some seriously funny shit when we are together.

RB:  Birch, where did the term come from and how does one become one?

AB: True story -- my real life Cammie, aka Kim, has an iPhone with a very overactive and inaccurate autocorrect. While chatting on Facebook one night, she was trying to say “Calm down bitches”. Her phone’s interpretation of that was “Chap down birches”. So now we only use the word bitch for people we really don’t like. Birches are the cool chicks. Anyone can be a birch, as long as they’re not a bitch ;)

RB: Drew’s club in Calculating Risks, was beautiful. Have you ever visited a place like that?

AB: Thank you! I have never visited a place like that so if you find one let me know and we’ll plan a visit together!

RB:  What did you learn about yourself in the writing process?

AB: Wow, good question! I’ve learned that I actually do in fact possess the ability to be patient, which contradicts how I’ve been living my entire life. I’ve had to be patient with myself and with my characters. It’s a new skill I’m quite proud of!

RB:  What would you say is the most difficult part of being an indie author?

AB: Just putting yourself and your work out there is pretty damn hard. It’s scary as hell to put so much work into something, then throw it to the wolves and hope it doesn’t get ripped to shreds.

RB:  What is the most rewarding part about being an indie author?

AB: Being able to interact with other indie authors, readers, and bloggers. I’ve made some amazing friends over the past year in the indie world.

RB: How do you deal with writers block?

AB:  By banging my head against a brick wall until the words are beaten out of my characters...
Okay, not that. But there have been times when it seemed like the perfect solution. I’ll revert back to my answer for #7. Patience. I just wait it out until the words come.

RB: Favorite book you have read in the last year?

AB: This is by far the hardest question to answer. I love every book I read for different reasons. But I won’t leave you hanging with that as my answer. So if I have to pick one off the top of head right now…The Corps Security series by Harper Sloan (I know it’s not one book, the whole series will have to do).

RB: Who is your current book boyfriend?

AB: I just finished reading Heart of Light and Heart of Marley by T.K. Leigh and I am really loving me some Cam. Those books are phenomenal by the way.

RB;  Time management. How do you manage to be a working mom, wife and a writer?

AB: Ah, you left out another current role of mine, softball team mom LOL
It’s freaking exhausting! But I’m not the first, nor will I be the last woman that has a billion and one things going on in her life every day. Last year when I was in the beginning stages with Pen Point, I thought I’d never be able to complete a book and still keep up with my full-time job, family, and friends. I was at the point of giving up writing when I heard something that has been a gigantic piece of guidance for me. I know I’m not quoting word for word, but here’s the gist of it…

When you have so many obligations in everyday life, you have to juggle and balance. You have to understand that you’re not always going to be great at every aspect every day. Today you may struggle at work. Tomorrow you may struggle with your family. You’re juggling baskets and sometimes, it’s okay to put one of those baskets down and take it out of rotation for a minute. Just don’t leave that same basket sitting over to the side for too long.

RB:  When you first held your book in your hands, what was the first thing you said or did?

AB:  I came home from work on my lunch break because I got notification that it had been delivered. I shed a few happy tears, laughed, and of course took a pic for Facebook!

RB: Are you currently working on anything new?

AB:  Yes and it’s very different from what readers have seen from me so far. Cammie and Tambria’s stories were a way for me to get my feet wet. This one is definitely more of an emotional ride for sure. At least it has been for me so far.
As of right now, I don’t have a date set. Hell, I don’t even have a title, but I absolutely cannot wait to share this with the book world.

RB: Any advice for anyone who is thinking of writing their fist book?
Stop thinking about it and just write. You are your worst critic, so throw self-doubt out the window and get out the pen and paper.

I cannot thank Angel Bales enough for her time. I greatly appreciate it. I hope you all get to meet Tambria and Cammie. Those girls are a freaking riot!!! Let me know when you get to the eyebrow scene... CLASSIC!!!!!

*.✫*¨*.¸¸.✶*¨`* Cora Carmack's SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT *.✫*¨*.¸¸.✶*¨`*

HERE’S THE SCOOP!

Fans of Cora Carmack’s Rusk University, we have a SUPER exciting announcement:

  ALL CLOSED OFF Coming 2016

ALL CLOSED OFF, Book 4 in the Rusk University Series, is coming!!!

Check out this message from Cora!

*WARNING: This letter contains spoilers for All Broke Down. If you haven't yet read that book, read at your own peril. SECOND WARNING: this letter talks about fictional characters as if they are real people. Sorry I'm not sorry. THIRD WARNING: The letter below broaches a serious topic that could be a trigger for some people*

Hello beloved readers! The first person who read one of my Rusk University books was my older sister. I gave her All Lined Up when I finished, and her first question was "Are Ryan and Stella going to be together?" At the time, I told her no. I had plans for both of them that included their own storylines. I thought they were too much alike. They'd make great friends. They might even hook-up, but in the end... I couldn't envision anything serious for them. So I actually rewrote some of their scenes trying to make that aspect of their connection more obvious. And still, when All Lined Up released, amidst the chatter about sweet Carson and sassy Dallas, I had people asking if Stella and Ryan were next. I denied it again (and again and again). But sometimes in writing, the stars align and a character will become bigger and more real than you could have possibly imagined. It's a wonderful experience, but in Stella's case it was also incredibly heartbreaking. While I was writing All Broke Down, the news was inundated with information about the Steubenville rape trial and other tragedies and injustices like it. Tragedies where women have been violated first by an attacker, then by judgmental and hateful people, and finally by a justice system that repeatedly fails survivors of sexual assault. Having grown up in Texas, where too often football stars are treated like gods and can get away with just about anything, it hit particularly close to home. And since All Broke Down featured a passionate activist heroine, I felt compelled to reference this chronic dark underbelly of elite sports. I can remember vividly sitting on my couch, brainstorming how I would incorporate such an event into the book. I had thought the assault would happen to an unknown character, and maybe I would focus on the way it divided the team and the school and the town. But like I said... Sometimes a character will become bigger and more human than I anticipated. And it sounds crazy, but in my mind, I felt Stella push her way forward and say, "Mine. This is my story." I immediately began to cry. Sob, really. Because I loved her as a character. She was hilarious and strong and didn't take crap from anyone. She was everything I always hope to be. And I didn't want her to go through that. Even as I cried, my brain began to tell me that it made sense. Stella was vibrant and enjoyed a wild party. She was not afraid of her sexuality, and she had no problem with casual sex. She was the kind of girl that probably had a reputation. The kind of girl who could be heinously and violently taken advantage of, and people would STILL blame her. Because she was in the wrong place, wearing the wrong clothes, behaving in the wrong way. But just because it COULD happen to her, didn't mean I wanted it to. But once again, Stella was there in my head saying, "Someone needs to tell this story. And I'm strong enough to do it. Let me." And when Stella chose her story, she also chose the man I'd been adamant wasn't right for her. Because as it turns out... Those two characters who I thought were too alike aren't so alike anymore. And Stella needs Ryan to help her hold on to that vibrant and strong girl she was before. So I let go of all the plans I had for her, and allowed her to tell me her story, which is about more than just sexual assault. It's about the aftermath. Depression. Shame. Guilt. Anger. Injustice. Victim-blaming. Slut-shaming. It's about the way that kind of event can change everything-- how you relate to people, how you think, how you dream, how you love. It's about the way the rest of the world moves on to the next big tragedy, and you're still left holding the broken pieces of who you used to be, with no idea how to put them together again or even if you want to. It will be the most difficult story I ever tell. And the most important. Because it’s a story that belongs not just to Stella, but to millions of people around the world. It’s a story that belongs to a new person every 107 seconds*. And that’s just in the United States. Think about that for a moment. 107 seconds. Stella’s story won’t be any easier to read than it will be to write. But I hope you’ll help me drag this story into the light. So now I’ll step off my soapbox and just tell you about the book… ALL CLOSED OFF: Stella Santos is fine. Maybe something terrible happened to her that she can’t even remember. And maybe it drives her crazy when her friends treat her like she’s on the verge of breaking because of it. Maybe it feels even worse when they do what she asks and pretend that it never happened at all. And maybe she’s been getting harassing emails and messages for months from people who don’t even know her, but hate her all the same. But none of that matters because she’s just fine. For Ryan Blake, Stella was always that girl. Vibrant and hilarious and beautiful. He wanted her as his best friend. His more than friends. His everything and anything that she would give him. Which these days is a whole lot of nothing. She gets angry when he’s there. Angry when he’s not there. Angry when he tries to talk and when he doesn’t. When Stella devises an unconventional art project for one of her classes all about exploring intimacy—between both friends and strangers—Ryan finds himself stepping in as guinea pig after one of her subjects bails. What was supposed to be an objective and artistic look at emotion and secrets and sex suddenly becomes much more personal. When he hits it off with another girl from the project, Stella will have to decide if she’s willing to do more than make art about intimacy. To keep him, she’ll have to open up and let herself be the one thing she swore she’d never be again. Vulnerable. ***** ALL CLOSED OFF will be releasing sometime in early 2016. I don't have a date yet for several reasons. The first and most important, is that I want to do this story justice. And as such, I have no intentions of rushing the process. Secondly, I'll be returning to indie publishing for the remainder of the Rusk series. As you can probably tell, this story means a great deal to me. And by having the ultimate control over everything from timing to editing to price, I'll be able to ensure that I'm able to create exactly the story I envision. Unfortunately, that means you won't be seeing the paperback of ALL CLOSED OFF on the shelves in most stores. Nor is it currently available for pre-order. But I hope you'll add the book on goodreads, follow me on social media, and/or join my newsletter. I promise to shout it all over the place when I have a set release date or pre-order links. Thank you for listening as I told you the evolution of Stella's story. When it's finished, I hope you will feel as passionately about it as I do. All my best, Cora Carmack   *Statistic from RAINN (Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network)   #WhenitHappened banner

And an opportunity to add your voice to Stella’s…

Stella’s experience is only one story of many. She was with someone she trusted when it happened, and the only memories she has are pieced together from her own blurred recollections and the things people have told her. Not everyone’s experience with sexual assault is the same. Each person reacts, copes, and overcomes differently. And while this book is about one specific character’s journey, I would like to tell as many sides of this story as possible. As Stella grapples with her thoughts and emotions she’ll be searching for advice, for comfort, for a place where people understand her and can identify with what she’s experiencing. There will be room for truth within the fiction, and if you’d like that truth to be yours, this is your chance. If you have a story like Stella’s, and you want your voice to be heard…. If there’s something you wish more people understood about what you’ve gone through…. If there’s something you’d like to tell people struggling with a story like yours… I’d like to give you the opportunity to add your voice to Stella’s. Use the hashtag #WhenItHappened and let your voice be heard on your own by posting on your own social media, or if you’d rather I share your words fill out this google document and tell me your story. You can fill out this form anonymously or not. I’d like to begin this discussion now because April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. But my hope is to include as many stories as possible within the book itself. So many have stories of #WhenItHappened. Your voice and your story deserve to be heard. I’m listening. #WhenItHappened Google Form: http://goo.gl/forms/4VRjWgZYSW   HeadshotABOUT Cora Carmack: Cora Carmack is a twenty-something New York Times bestselling author who likes to write about twenty-something characters.
